CAPER Launches RFP: Help Build the Future of Postgraduate Medical Education Data 

The Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER) has launched a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking a qualified vendor to redesign its public website (Phase 1). This initiative is a key step in CAPER’s broader digital modernization efforts, aimed at improving how Canada’s postgraduate medical education data is accessed and used. 

The new platform will focus on enhanced usability, accessibility, and bilingual delivery, providing a more intuitive and data-driven experience for stakeholders across the country. CAPER is looking to partner with an experienced vendor capable of delivering a modern, user-centered digital solution that supports its national mandate.

The 2025–2026 CAPER Annual Census is Now Available

The Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER) is pleased to announce the release of the 2025–2026 Annual Census, now accessible on our website. 

What’s new this year? 

CAPER’s dataset now reflects the inclusion of Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada’s 18th faculty of medicine, which has recently welcomed its first cohort of learners, including postgraduate medical trainees. This addition strengthens the completeness and national comparability of CAPER’s pan-Canadian dataset on postgraduate medical training. 

We encourage all stakeholders to consult the updated dataset and apply these insights to inform evidence-based decision-making in medical education and health workforce planning.

New CAPER Fact Sheet Now Available!!! 

Discover CAPER’s newest fact sheet, International Medical Graduates in Canada: From Post‑M.D. Training to Practice, now available on our website. This publication brings together national CAPER data from the Annual Census of Post‑M.D. Trainees and the National IMG Database to highlight the role of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) in Canadian postgraduate medical education and provide insight into their transition into medical practice following completion of training. 

Strategic Planning at a Glance (2025-2030) 

CAPER is advancing its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, guided by six strategic initiatives that will shape priorities over the next five years. These initiatives focus on strengthening CAPER’s data foundations, modernizing products and services, enhancing digital infrastructure, and supporting the evolving needs of the postgraduate medical education community. 

How CAPER supports the community 

CAPER supports the postgraduate medical education community through its national data holdings, knowledge products, and data‑enabled supports. These include custom data requests, the CAPER Data Clearinghouse for secure, anonymized data linkage, and collaborative research engagement through the Visiting Scholar‑in‑Residence Program, supporting research, planning, and policy discussions across the PGME landscape. Contact us at caper@afmc.ca for more information.

CAPER Data Featured in the Health Workforce Canada Dashboard 

Health Workforce Canada has released their latest dashboard module focused on Internationally Educated Health Professionals! 

This module delivers an integrated platform that consolidates up-to-date data from across Canada and offers international comparisons, with contributions from: Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), members of Health Workforce Canada’s Dashboard Advisory Group, and publicly available information from WHO, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS), Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER), Health Canada, and Statistics Canada.
